Terms of use and disclaimer
These terms govern access to References.watch. By using the site, you agree to use its information as research material and to verify material decisions independently.
1. Nature of the service
References.watch is an independent research project that organises watch-reference information, source citations, selected market observations and a visible-condition vocabulary. The current public site does not sell watches, broker transactions or act for manufacturers, auction houses or dealers.
2. No authentication, valuation or professional advice
Nothing on the site is a certificate of authenticity, appraisal, insurance valuation, investment recommendation, tax or legal advice, or a representation about title or provenance. Monetary values are evidence-based research observations or analytical summaries, not promised transaction prices.
Consult appropriately qualified independent professionals before buying, selling, insuring, repairing or making a financial decision about a watch.
3. Accuracy and availability
We aim to cite reliable sources and distinguish unsupported fields, but the database is evolving. Information may be incomplete, delayed, region-specific, superseded or affected by source errors. We do not promise uninterrupted availability or that every reference, configuration or market event is represented.
Users remain responsible for checking the exact watch, documents, serial information, condition, seller, transaction terms and current primary sources.
4. Condition Atlas and beta assessment
The Condition Atlas describes observable cosmetic features. Automated output depends on image quality and model inference and may be wrong or inconclusive. It cannot verify authenticity, originality, ownership, reference correctness, provenance, concealed damage, internal movement condition, water resistance or market value.
Do not use an assessment result as the sole basis for a purchase, sale, listing description, insurance claim or dispute.
5. Cookie-free and photo-handling promise
References.watch is a cookie-free service. We do not use tracking cookies and we do not store uploaded watch photos. Uploaded images and shared information are processed only to return the requested identification or condition-assessment result.
Your Light / Dark theme preference may be saved locally in your browser. For security and availability, Cloudflare may set strictly necessary technical cookies. These are not used by References.watch for tracking or analytics.
6. Acceptable use
You may use the public site for personal and internal research. You must not interfere with the service, bypass access controls, submit malicious material, overload endpoints, misrepresent automated results as professional certificates, or use the site to infringe another person's rights.
Systematic extraction, republication or commercial reuse of protected presentation, selection or original analysis requires prior written permission unless applicable law clearly permits it. Factual watch references and third-party trademarks remain subject to their own legal status.
7. Third-party sources and links
Links are provided to document evidence and aid verification. References.watch does not control external sites and is not responsible for their availability, privacy practices, accuracy or later changes. A link does not imply endorsement, partnership or manufacturer affiliation.
Where external structured data is used under a licence, API permission or collaboration, source-specific attribution and restrictions are described in our Data sources and collaborations disclosure.
8. Responsibility and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, References.watch is provided without a guarantee that it is complete, error-free or fit for a particular decision. We are not responsible for loss caused by reliance on unverified information, external content, beta model output or a user's failure to carry out appropriate independent checks.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer rights where they apply.
9. Changes and suspension
We may correct, expand, withdraw or reorganise content and tools, and update these terms as the project develops. The effective date at the top identifies the current published version.
10. Applicable law and contact
Belgian law applies to the extent permitted, without depriving a consumer of mandatory protections available under the law of their habitual residence. Contact us first so that a concern can be examined promptly.
